St. Johns County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 911 New Member Opportunity
The Explorer program is a program for young men and women ages 12 – 21. The program is designed to build strong relationships with law enforcement while teaching participants about the profession. Explorers work firsthand with law enforcement officers, creating an opportunity bridge the gap between youth and law enforcement. Participants must be in good standing in the community, keep up their grades, and not be in trouble with law enforcement We meet on Monday nights from 6:30pm-8:30pm at the Sheriff’s Office (across from the courthouse), in our squad room at 4455 Avenue A, St. Augustine 32095 (please note that our squad room is located behind the main Sheriff’s Office building and has a different address, so if you use a GPS or mapping system please use the Avenue A address). We have regular Monday night meetings throughout the school year and have a Leadership Challenge, a week-long camp during the summer, as well as other events that come up throughout the year. During our Monday night meetings we train in different aspects of law enforcement to include; history of law enforcement, crime scene, felony traffic stops, shooting, traffic crash investigation, and uniform and drill. We also train in areas such as public speaking, leadership, and ethics and have monthly PT (physical training) nights. We do a lot of community service on weeknights and weekends over the course of the year, which we keep track of all the hours so the kids can use it towards college and scholarships for school. Every Explorer is expected to attend Monday night meetings (if they also play sports we can work that out) and attend as many of the details as possible. We accept new members twice a year, once in September and once in January. Membership dues are $75 for the year or $37.50 for 6 months and the dues cover the cost of uniforms and equipment.
