Deputy Kemp was raised in Fernandina Beach where he was an avid surfer. As a member of their Surfing Club he competed in many contest. He also took several forms of martial arts starting in middle school and like surfing continues today. Deputy Kemp attended the Police Academy the fall after graduating high school. He went to work for the Fernandina Beach Police Department as a volunteer until he was hired with the Florida Park Service as a Law Enforcement Ranger. In 1995 he also became a reserve Deputy Sheriff for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Also in 1995 he answered the call to Preach the Gospel as a Southern Baptist Preacher and has been the agency Chaplain ever since. In 2000 Kelly left the Park Service and continued his education while he worked part time for the Sheriff’s Office, achieving a Bachelors degree in Theology.
Deputy Kemp has works in many areas of the Sheriff’s Office because of his Chaplain Duties; as a Patrol Deputy, in the Jail on the PAL ball fields. He has also worked in the COPS unit, Special Operations, Programs, Bicycle Pedestrian officer and this is his second tour working with PAL. His primary duty is working with first time juvenile offenders in the Juvenile Civil Citation program. This program allows kids a chance to redeem themselves through community service, counseling and treatment programs in an effort to avoid having a criminal record. In 2008 he received the SJSO Guy White Award, which is given annually to the Deputy of the Year.
Deputy Kemp wholeheartedly enjoys serving the Lord and his community through the work that has been given him. His greatest gifts from God though are his beautiful wife and three wonderful children, whom he enjoys surfing with every chance they get.

PAL Specialist Gracita Smith
Ms. Gracita has been employed with the St. Johns County Sheriffs Office for 12 years. She began her career at the Sheriffs Office on December 19th, 2000 as a Corrections Control Operator and in December of 2002 she transferred into the position of PAL Specialist. She has been a part of St. Johns PAL for the last 10 years.
Ms. Gracita was born and raised in Hastings, Florida where she attended Hastings Elementary School and then Hastings High School. She was Captain of the Hastings Wildcats Cheerleading team, whoop whoop! She joined the United States Navy and entered boot camp in November 1981 and after completing 4 years of active military service she received a Good Conduct Service Award. She recieved an Honorable Discharge and left the military after 6 years of active duty.
She is the mother of 3 adult daughters Candice, Quiara and Shakayla and has two adorable grandchildren Lynnwood Alridge III (5) and Na’Trinity Asbell (2) who are the loves of her life. She loves spending time with her family, going out to eat and shopping.

Deputy Wesley R. Grizzard
Dep. Wesley R. Grizzard began his career with the St. Johns
County Sheriff’s Office in 2003. During his years of service he has had the
opportunity to serve in the following positions:Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, Shift
Evidence Technician, Firearms Instructor, Driving Instructor, P.I.T. Instructor
and Crisis Intervention Team Member. Dep. Grizzard has been fortunate to have
worked in every area of the county as a Patrol Deputy and has enjoyed every new
Dep. Grizzard was born in Tennessee; however he has spent
most of his life in Florida. He graduated from Allen D. Nease High School in 1990.
He served in the United States Navy and worked in the private sector before
beginning his Law Enforcement Career.
Dep. Grizzard has a Master’s degree in Public Administration
from Barry University and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from
Flagler College. He is married to Susan and they have a son named Spencer.

Deputy Kermit Kidder
Deputy Kermit Kidder began his law enforcement career with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. Deputy Kidder worked primarily in the northern/central part of the county as a patrol deputy and was also an original member of the Crisis Intervention Team. Deputy Kidder is now the current Sports Programs Coordinator in PAL.
Deputy Kidder was born in Trenton, New Jersey but has lived in Florida most of his life. He graduated from Lakeland High School in 1986 and immediately went into the United States Army a month later, serving with the 82 Airborne Division while stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. After his enlistment, Deputy Kidder attended Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee and later became the youth pastor at First Church of the Nazarene in Jacksonville, Florida.
Deputy Kidder is now married to his wonderful wife Carol and has five boys and one granddaughter. All but two are grown and on their own, leaving him with his son Caleb (8yr old) and his granddaughter Karma (2yrs old). Both of which you will see a lot of. Prior to coming to PAL fulltime, Deputy Kidder has coached in our flag football program for the past three years winning one championship with the Little Titans in 2011 and looks forward to the many years to come.
Deputy Kidder enjoys all sports, any challenges, and anything outdoors. Deputy Kidder is also an avid Madden player on the PS3 game system and accepts all challenges.
