The mission of the St. Johns County Police Athletic League is to foster an environment for the youth of St. Johns County that promotes character development, leadership skills, and personal growth through a variety of programs enhanced with positive interaction with Law Enforcement.
The Police Athletic League is one of the oldest character building youth programs in the nation. It fosters an environment for positive interaction between law enforcement officers and children within the community. PAL is based on the principle that young people, if reached early enough, can develop trust, positive attitudes, and the ability to meaningfully engage with persons of authority. Studies have shown that if a young person respects a police officer on the ball field, in the gym or classroom, they will likely come to respect others in the community.
St. Johns PAL was started in 1991 by Sheriff Neil Perry with these same goals in mind and we are continuing this tradition today. PAL works in cooperation with many local organizations such as the St. Johns County Recreation Department, St. Johns County School District, Juvenile Justice, our state and national chapters and many others to offer programs to the youth of our communities. Our staff and volunteers also have the opportunity to be a trusted authority figure that assists children with finding guidance, setting goals, and enjoying new life opportunities.
