Player Evaluations are a key tool in our flag football program and are Mandatory for all those who are wanting to play. During the evaluations, the coaches within the division will observe each player showcasing their skills and abilities at three separate stations;
Station 1 will be a timed 40-yard dash to determine the players speed.
Station 2 will be a throwing station to help determine the players arm strength and their accuracy
Station 3 will be the receiving station to help determine the players ability to catch the football , their route running ability and their ball awareness when the pass is thrown and their ability to adjust to a bad pass.
Players should wear athletic attire with rubber cleats (no-metal). Mouthguards are not necessary for the evaluations. I do not want any players covering their face during the evaluation process.
Drafting Process: Following the evaluations, the division coaches will meet and draft their teams. The draft order for each coach will be determined by a blind draw from a hat on the day of the draft. The drafting format we use is a Snake Format. (an explanation of this format can be found on google) Coaches will take their information from the players evaluations and use the information to determine their first or next pick. The draft will continue until all players are picked. Following the draft, coaches will make contact with their team within 3 days from receiving their players contact information. This contact information is taken directly from our online registration so please make sure the information is current and correct.
Practice: Prior to the start of the season, I encourage each coach to get in several practices, especially over the holidays when the kids are out of school. These practices are not Mandatory but can be extremely helpful to everyone on the team. Once we reach the first week of games, all teams will be limited to 1 practice per week. These practices will be on either Tuesday or Thursday night at Pomar Park. Two time slots are available for practice 5pm-6:30pm or 6:30pm-8pm. Please note, the day and time of the practices are determined by the head coach. I do encourage our 6U and 8U take the first time slot but it is not guaranteed.
Commitment: Playing a sport in any league requires a commitment from the volunteer coaches, the players, the parents and of course our PAL Staff. In my opinion, if your child has other commitments on the same day or night, commit to one and give them 100% of your best, 50% doesn't help.
